Most of you won’t realise this but my wedding was actually planned in Skiathos and later cancelled through lack of funds. The joys of giving up a perfectly good job to be a writer!
So we went for a similar, sunny venue; namely the ‘witches pool’ waterfall in the Highlands of Scotland. And you thought I’d thrown Halloween in as a well timed gimmick. (OK you’re right!) Fort William is known to be the wettest place in Britain so, naturally… it rained. And rained. I also recall some ‘slight’ gale force winds too.
I don’t understand why I can’t seem to secure a comedy writing career when I already have a permanent post in my own comedy life. How many weddings have you been to where the guests were in wellies, an umbrella fell in the face of the groom during photos and the happy couple had to sign the register in a car boot because the marquee for the purpose has blown away with the wedding planner still attached?
So this was my day; but then when you live and decide to marry in Scotland you might expect the odd summertime monsoon. But don’t forget, as The Big Yin says, “there is no such thing as bad weather only the wrong clothes.” And a long white gown in a mudslide might just qualify. But we didn’t care, it was one fantastic day that we and our guests will never forget. I haven’t laughed so much since I won a years supply of sunscreen from Visit Scotland.
Here’s to forty more years of smiles 🙂
