The New Mrs D

After Shirley Valentine, after The First Wives Club and hot on the naked heels of Calendar Girls… there was The New Mrs D!

Four days into their honeymoon in Greece, Bernice and David Dando have yet to consummate their marriage and after having accepted his almost non-existent desire for sex throughout the relationship, Bernice finally discovers the reason… he is addicted to porn. Learning that the love of her life chooses the cheap thrill of fantasy over her is devastating but then, ‘every man does it; it’s just looking, right?’.  If she leaves the relationship because of virtual adultery, will she be labelled as pathological, overreacting, or even worse, frigid?

When funny, feisty, forty-something Bernice plans the adventure trip of a lifetime, she doesn’t expect to be spending it alone. But as it turns out, contributing to a Greek fish explosion, naked karaoke and misadventures with volcanoes are exactly what she needs to stop fretting about errant husbands and really start living. But when Mr D tries to win her back, Bernice has a decision to make: is this a holiday from her humdrum life, or the start of a whole new adventure?

The New Mrs D is a refreshing, sharp-witted and empowering romp that ‘reflects real life, delves into unspoken about subjects and slaps the reader in the face with honesty.’ – Fleur Ferris, Author

It is a story about one woman’s midlife awakening… on her honeymoon alone.

”The perfect setting for a hilarious update to Eat Pray Love.’ – Tara Gladden, Editor

    1. Hi Lindy – this is lovely to know, thank you very much. I have now got an agent, Hannah Ferguson of The Marsh Agency and we are currently working on a new submissions package, along with a few last minute edits/tweaks together. I’m really hoping for good news in 2014 – so watch this space.
But truly, thank you so much for your feedback I really do appreciate it. Submissions is a tough process for writers and I’ve had quite a lot of lovely messages like this through the blog and social media – it’s VERY encouraging to know there is a potential readership out there just waiting for this book. Somebody tell the publishers! 🙂

  1. I have a strange feeling … but, I’m sure I can get medication for it.
No, seriously, I think I’ll be looking out for this, which will be easy, because I’m following your journey. When I do get around to reading the book, you do realise it will be purely for the purpose of researching other writers – not.. I wish you every success with it, and I’ll play my part..

  2. I was going to keep an eye out for this purely because in two days time, I will become the new Mrs D…but having read the back, I’m going to poke my Waterstones-employee niece and ask her to pick it up for me 😀

    1. Haha! Well many, many congratulations! Another lady contacted me a while back (through my Pinterest account) & said the same – she was about to become Mrs D. A part of me felt guilty as my protagonist leaves her new husband while they’re in honeymoon! So all I’ll say is don’t go letting it give you any ideas 😉 Hope you have a wonderful, sunny wedding day! Re Waterstones, if you are not in Scotland, your niece will find it for order but not on the shelf. Please do ask though – I understand HO are watching my sales in Scotland to consider stocking in the rest of the UK stores 🙂 And thank you for stopping by! Xxx
